I am thinking of buying an Allis Chalmers model 5040 tractor. From What I can tell so far it appears to be in decent shape and the serial number indicates it is a 1976 or 1977 model it has Diesel engine with power steering and an 8 speed forward, 2 reverse transmission.

However I can't find any information or reference to this model at all on the web so far. Can anybody help on links, value, availability of parts and manuals, reliability?

Thanks

Hugh Hunt

We sold scores of the 5040s & they have proven to
be one of the most bulletproof tractors ever built! Don't let parts availabilityor $ scare you
off as the same tractor was/is sold through Long
Agribusiness and the parts are largely available
through them at current model prices instead of
Agco's old model prices. We are a Long dealer as
well as Allis.

Hi, Hugh,

One of my uncles purchased some implements a few years ago and an A-C 5040 was included in the bargain. The one he got had been "run hard and put away wet" several times. He had several problems with it; when he had to buy parts, he quickly learned that they are hard to find and VERY expensive. He got rid of it in short order because of the problems and expense of parts. However, if you wish to purchase the 5040, contact Sandy Lake Implement. Their e-mail address is [email protected]. They can get parts, manuals, etc. for the 5040(I found out too late for my uncle, though!).

Ron is correct; the 5040 was built in Romania. That blew me away when I found that out.

UTB of Romania built the tractor for A.C. 40 hp parts are hard to find.
