D17 3 Pt Hitch Won't stay UP

We just bought a D17, and of course, there were no manuals with it. I'm trying to figure out how to keep the 3 pt hitch up. The minute I release the lever, the hitch drops. I've been told that the 2 levers on the column must be in the 'up' position, and they are, but to no avail. Am I missing something here, or should I suspect a problem?

The front handle is the traction boost handle and should be in the down position when using the raise and lower for the 3 pt hitch. Also you may have another handle on your left that appears to operate the implement hoses on this valve there is a push pull handle that switches the hydraulics
from the 3 point to the traction boost.
with the traction boost handle in the up position the 3 pt. should automaticly raise and stay there. the traction boost also runs the rear hydraulic lines. It appears in your case the valve and or seals that hold the 3 pt. up are not working properly allowing oil to return to tank when it should hold pressure.

While I wait for manuals to arrive.....
If I need to get to the seals and / or valve, is this something that I want to persue, or should I find someone that can handle it?

Problem solved. I disconnected the selector valve, and the 3 Pt works fine. Apparently the system is circulating hydrolic fluid through the valve and doesn't build up enough pressure to run the 3 pt hitch.
