D14 disaster

Yesterday, when I was doing a little plowing with my old D14, it threw a rod. Now it has a hole in the side of the block that you could drop a softball through. (I have had better weekends.) I suppose that I have two options: I could try to sell it for parts, or I could try to find a block and rebuild the engine. Does anyone have any advice to offer? Any ideas on what I could get for the tractor selling it as is for parts? On the other hand, does anyone know where I could find a block and what it might cost?

Thanks for the info. Right now, I am trying to figure out what it will cost to get running again. If you like, you could send me your email address and I will get back in touch with you if I decide to sell it for parts.

Wayne I paid $300 for my 57 D14 with a BE engine in it then paid $750 for a D15 engine at a bone yard in S.W.Missouri. Not a bad little tractor for $1,050 and I needed the BE engine any way.

That sounds like a good alternative. Does anybody know of a "bone yard" up my way (central Michigan)?

If you have the broken out peice it may be possible to weld it back if it isn't in a critical area such as the water jacket. Some people don't like welded blocks but if it would get you by it should work fine.

How reliable is a welded block? There were 3 pieces that I found. I think there is a fourth piece that I haven't found yet. Could multiple pieces be welded in?

A D14 in decent shape is a worthy ractor. I am looking at the 1999 Central tractor catalogue, and they list a D14 motor for 1449 Outright, and 1249 exchange. You might want to find if they'll take one with an extra inspection port.... Telephone Number is 18888CTFARM

this would probably be your cheapest solution. Plus fairly painless.....you can swaop engines in a weekend, and be back in business with a fresh engine....of course you might want to have the head refreshed while you are at it....

By the way, your D14 isn't worth much right now, but with a fresh engine in my neck of the woods (upstate NY) they go from 2500 to 5500 depending on the shape.

Good Luck
Steve

Thanks for the tip. I will have to call Central tractor for a catalogue.
