Housing oil leak on ca

i have a leak coming from the bottom of the housing that has a hole in the bottom of it .it come out when i pour the oil in the trans.while the engine is off.is why is this hole here?the brake bands are shot to because of this.i need some good advise thank you very much..gary bialke

The hole is also for reaching the set screw on the brake drum.

Gary, The seal on the bull gear pinion shaft (the shaft that goes out from the differential to the final drives) is leaking. The hole in the housing is there to let water and debris drain out. Replacing this seal requires removal of the final drive ass'y as a unit. If you don't have a service manual, you should probably get one before attempting this project.
