Kerosene for tractor fuel?

One of my old Allis tractors still has the low compression pistons for gas or distillate fuel. I have been thinking of running it on kerosene at the shows where I work the tractor just 'cause no one else does. I have been told that running the lower grade fuels is a pain in the behind for maintenance reasons like oil dilution, spark plug fouling etc. I have to buy a few things to make the dual-fuel system usable again. Do any of you guys have any experience running kerosene?

I have a Wd45 that was ordered with the low compression engine. It has the starter tank and everything. As soon as I get time, I plan to take it to shows and run it on Keresoene. Is there anyone who has seen a Wd45 Distillate? I would like to talk to you. I also have a WD45 Diesel, LPG and Gasoline and all four front end combinations. Would love to be able to take all four to a show sometime. michael

Hi guys.... my 41 WC is a dual fuel too. Biggest problem they have is with oil dilution. If you have ever seen the owners manual on these, there is a reference to the drain cock located 1/2 way down the oil pan. It is there to drain off the kerosene that gets by the rings. The book tells you to drain the top oil every 50 hours and top off with clean oil ! I try to run mine every week or two on kero just to keep every thing moving. Mine does eat spark plugs a little more often if I run kero alot.
I don't understand the other post about overheating on kero. It isn't known for its hot burning properties, thats why you have to crank them on gas. I agree about taking it to the show burning kero ! Most folks don't know that it was the fuel of choice when money was tight.

Butch, I've been thinking of doing the same thing,and for the same reason.One of my WC's is set up for Kerosene,and it does run on it,but it will not start except on pure gasoline --I mean drain all the Kero out of the carb bowl, and squirt some gas in the intake.Mine also overheated on Kerosene,but I can't blame all of that on the fuel. Let me know how you make out ---BamaDee
