Mag timing rotor to points fairbanks fm??

I have a allis B with a fairbanks fm J mag. I took the distributor off as well as mag. Did not notice the position of the gears in the distributor. No marks on gears as in manuals.

I need to time the rotor position to the points.
this is an impulse type. note: not trying to time the mag to the engine.

Greg if you had the main cap off for points. The small meatel gear has one tooth with a angel cut on the front of it and the larg fiber gear has a I mark between two teeth. If you can't find the I mark point the flat side of the rotor shaft at 4 oclock and the cut tooth up and put it togather.

Sorry, but if the markings are gone from the large gear (and a lot of them are) the only refferance point that I know of is to start with top dead center on the engine and then set the gear teeth so the rotor points toward the number plug terminal with the mag on the tractor. I am open to directions from any one that knows of another way.
