I JUST FINISHED RESTORING A "G" MY FATHER BOUGHT NEW IN 1949. THE FRONT OF THE BATTERY BOX WAS CUT OUT. I WELDED IN A PIECE OF METAL AND ALSO MADE A LID. TRYING TO INSTALL THE BATTERY WAS IMPOSSIBLE WITH OUT TAKING THE FENDER OFF. WAS THE FRONT PLATE OF THE BATTERY BOX HINGED, OR ATTACHED IN SUCH A WAY YOU CAN EASILY REMOVE THE BATTERY?

There were 5 to 8 AC-G's on the family farm (Pop & Unk ran their two farms together as one and shared equipment, etc) during the 50's to 70's.

They all were modified for ease of battery replacement. First the right fender was bent outward almost 90 degrees. (two guys with pipewrenches made it quick) then the cover to the battery box was thrown away! No problem with fender to tire interference as most were set up on 64" to 68" centers to straddle 4 rows of muck onions.

Oh yeah, Pop also hacksawed off the outside front, top corner of the battery box when Mom put her foot down and refused to mend any more of the 3 corner tears in the back of his overall legs that he'd create when he slid down off the seat

Why all the SHOUTING.

The original lid was held on with 4 nuts that went on 4 posts that came up near the corners. The 4 sides of the box were all solid with most of the bottom open. And yes the ONLY way to get the battery in or out was remove the fender.
