I am currently seeking a small to mid size tractor to purchase and have found a "b" that is in my price range and a good restoration project.i am seeking any info you have on these tractors..good and bad...It is all there and has good metal , little rust and great wheels and tires...the only thing i am aware of it needs brakes and a tune up..How are they getting parts?and how about the seat ,cushions etc...Any input would be greatly appreciated...Will

I bought a B as my first tractor about 2 months ago. So far I have loved it! (At least after I got it running correctly.) The work I've done on mine has been very simple so far but I've not messed with the brakes. I think in order to replace the brakes the tractos has to be split. I'll tackle that this winter. The only hurdle I'm working on right now is implements. Having a standard 3 point hitch would be nice. Other than that, the B has done everything I've asked of it from skidding small and medium trees to running a 5' brush hog through some pretty tall and dense weeds. $750 sounds like a pretty good price as well.

Scott, you do not have to split the tractor to replace the brake bands on AC-B. They are a real pain though to replace.

Thanks for the info Larry. Two questions.

1. What makes the bands such a pain?
2. Can I replace wheel bearings and seals without splitting the tractor?

Will,

The Allis 'B' model is a great restoration tractor since parts are readily available and it's well built. If you're getting this for around $750, you're getting a good deal (running and good rubber with straight tin.)
