I know you got the pump to prime and now everything's OK, but one method I have used that works really well when overhauling any engine. Take a used freon container, or any container that will hold some pressure and has a top fill opening and a bottom outlet. Connect a hose from the bottom opening to the oil pressure gage hole, with a shut off valve in it. Put 2-3 quarts of oil in the container and put a fitting in the fill hole that can be connected to an air compressor. Pressurize the container at 20PSI or so an open the valve. Oil will flow thru all of the oil passages in the block, head, oil pump, etc. so when you start the engine you will have oil to everything immediately. Remember, 90% of hte wear on an engine occurs when you start it. I can't take credit for this idea, an old friend of mine showed it to me. Good luck, Paul
