I am looking for the correct color for a 1954 WD45, sn # 174124. I have many other AC's that are also getting painted soon. Is there a book or other source for the colors of the various models that you have found helpful?

Jodie, What is now known as Persian orange #1 is the correct color for your '45. The only paint I know off that is considered correct for it is PPG Ditzler #dar60080. The current #008 Dupont color is not even close. The PPG paint is very expensive. If you use the primers and surfacers that PPG recomends, you will spend at least $500 A friend has been experimenting with Quality Farm and Fleets current A-C orange and says it is "close enough" at $16 a gallon. I guess that I would use the PPG if I was doing a special show tractor,or if it is going to sit outside, otherwise the QFF paint. Like RJB said, Depends on how picky you want to be,.... and how deep your pockets are.

butch, i've been told quality farm paint doesn't exactly live up to it's name. may not for $16 per gallon. would like to here if your friend has good luck with it.

According to the sheet I have in front of me:
Dark Green was used from 1914-1929 or Martin-Seymour 99L.11511 & 99N4359 for the red
Persian Orange One was used from 1929-1959 or Dupont 008 or Ditzler Orange DAR 60080.
Persian Orange Two was from 1960-1977 or Dupont 29047 with cream Dupont 29049 or Ditzler DAR 60396
Corporate Orange was used from 1978-1985.
Now I know this sounds confusing but I can tell you that persian orange can only be bought in spray cans. If you are painting a 45, persian orange one would be the one. I have painted a WD corporate orange and am about to paint my 45 the same color. This is ony because I want everything to look the same color and not try to sit and match paint every time I want to paint a new tractor or impl. It all depends on how picky you want to get.

SO Allis-Chalmers orange is PERSIAN ORANGE?
Is #1 a bright orange or a yellow orange?
What does # 2 lok like?
What does CORPORATE orange look like?

If I remember right persian orange one is kind of a dull darker fadded looking orange. The corporate orange which I belive most people use is a bright shinny orange. But what ever you use as long as it is allis orange it well look nice.

You said that Persian Orange can only be bought in spray cans. Which orange are you refering to ( #1,#2,or corporate) and which brand have you had good luck with?

Bud the dealer said that persian orange 1 is only sold in say cans. That, from what I heard is the only way to get true persian orange 1. I am not sure about 2, I don't have any thing that new to paint. I have been using corporate orange just because it comes in cans or pints or gallans. It is easy to work with and most dealers carry it a hand.
