Can anyone help me with what (generally) has to be done to repair the hand clutch? Mine still works, but I'm beginning to notice that it's not engaging quite like it used to. It used to lock into place with a firm click. Now the "click" is barely noticable. I'm worried about my son (15 yrs old) depending on the hand clutch too much (not taking out of gear when idling and dismounting).

I'm keeping him off the tractor unless he stops depending on the hand clutch.

So, am I correct about the potential danger? And what has to be done to fix the hand clutch? Is it expensive?

The traction clutch of the WD is a real work horse. I think of it as the preface to hydrostatic transmission in modern combines. Along with removing the shims I would be sure the lubrication level is correct in the transmission. This could account for the accellerated wear more than the teenagers method of operation.

you probably need to remove some shims from the clutch. it's an easy process. you should pick up an i-t manual it explains it well, as well as many other maint. adjustments. good luck.
