First of thanks for to everyone on my question regarding setting the timing on the magneto. Without your suggestions we couldn't have got it working. (We have spark!)

Here are today's questions: 1) My '39 "B" (SN B21110)has FOOT brakes. Would this be correct for this tractor?

2) My '39 "B" also has hydraulics. Again, would this be correct for this tractor?

My 39 B has foot brakes and belt/PTO/hydraulics, and is electric start. My personal suspicion is this is a '46 (hydraulics were much more prevelent postwar) that the trans has been swapped on. Many B's would wear the trans teeth to the point they would jump out of gear under load; I have heard this was more common after 1942 and so people swapped earleir trans's into them. I thought that foot brakes didn't show up until postwar too, but that's my observation not a documented fact. My Dad's '40 had hand brakes, and my parts tractor is a 1951 serial with hand start and hand brakes. As it is easy to swap parts I think you'd need to have original owner units to be sure. I would bet that you could get most any combo depending upon how much money you wanted to spend...

I can't say with certainty given that I am also a "greenhorn" at this orange stuff but, my '41 B has hand brakes and hydraulics. So I would agree with Dick L. Foot brakes, not correct... hydraulics, likely correct...

On the foot brakes, I don't think so but I am not totaly sure. On the hydraulics, Yes. The 1938 power takeoff and belt pully unit had a freeze plug like cover where the hydraulic pump would have bolted on. I have one of those in my collection of stuff. In 1939 you could get the hyraulic pump, or so I was told by a man that was an Allis Chalmers dealer at that time.
