Fuel flow problem on CA

I just acquired a CA which ran fine for a week or so. Now, when the tractor gets warm, it just dies from fuel starvation. If I let it sit for a minute or two it will restart but shuts off again within a short period of time. If I let it cool off completely, it will run for an hour or so. Is it the carb floats? The fuel is clean so I don't think it's sediment. I notice that the carb/intake manifold share a mounting with the exhaust manifold, is there a bad insulator somewhere? Any help/thoughts appreciated.

Jim,
I've been there with two different tractors. Most likely it's rust flakes in the fuel tank blocking the outlet from the tank. Could also be in the carb if there is no fuel filter. First, drain the tank and remove it. Clean all the loose rust flakes out with water. Throw in about three pounds of loose square nuts, 1/4-20 is about the right size. Fill the tank about 1/4 with water and roll it around to make the hardware scrape off the loose rust. Flush well, then pour in a bottle of rubbing alcohol to get the water out.
Now you can either use a lining kit to coat the inside of the tank or just use it like it is. If you don't coat it, it will rust up again in a year or two. Then proceed to clean the rest of the fuel system all the way through the carb, which will need to be disassembled and all the passages cleaned of rust flakes. Then add an in-line fuel filter and reassemble. No more stalling from fuel starvation.

Phil,

Thanks for the advice. The settling bowl is clear so the buildup must be in the carb. There is a new fuel line and filter on the tractor so this was probably a problem before it was sold. I'll post how it comes out.
