Help! Can't get brake drum off shaft. Are these things heat shrink fitted or what? Tried heating drum while pulling with homemade puller, tried driving it off. I'm worried that I'm going to break final drive housing. I used 1/2" threaded rods for puller and had them so tight that the rods were distorting and the nuts were striping off. Any one know a secret? Any help appreciated.

You do have the setscrew out of the brake drum hub. If the brake drum hub has seized to the pinion shaft, you need more heat and a sharp rap with heavy hammer while you have full force of the puller. If that don't work, and it should, find someone with a press and press the pinion shaft out. If the hub is seized that bad you might want to take the pinion shaft out for inspection.

Thanks for the reply Dick. I removed the set screw first thing. I used mapp gas for heat which was apparently not enough. I'm looking at investing in ox/acy rig for such as this. But for now, I went ahead and cut the drum off w/ a cold chisel. I have a guy trying to locate a used drum for replacement now. Also pads, bands etc were shot. $$ but I'm having fun $$. That my freind, is what it is all about. (FUN.) No mater how you got it apart or how much it costs to repair, you have learned something that you could not have any other way. ---- and the next time it won't cost as much --- and when someone tells you that you don't know what your talking about, you can walk away and GRIN
