Wet sleeve engines

Do the wet sleeve engines on an allis c leake when they get old. Also is the allis C a good tractor for pulling big Hay wagons and what can I run of the belt pully.

Im looking at buying one.

The sleeves can leak at the O-rings at the base of the sleeve, getting water in the oil. A C is really pretty small for puilling loads. Just not enough brakes or power to do much. Belt pulleys are near worthless now. Maybe a buzz saw, thresher, old hammer mill. All if you can find them.

I have not seen wet sleeves leak unless they were damaged when being installed. If proper care is not taken in prepairing the bottom surface and the lead into it, the o rings can be pinched and some of the o ring scuffed off. It is not a problem that you have to fight and worry about with all wet sleeve engines.

I'll agre to a point. If you have an old engine, one that's sat for a long time with no water init, or still has original o-rings, then it is not only possible, but likely that the rings will leak. Rubber gets old and cracks. Toss in some engine heat, and you have the POTENTIAL for watery oil.

Any thing is possible. You probably been around this stuff longer than me, but I have not seen it. I have over 20 wet sleeved tractors. Out of those, only three were running when I bought them. I have only had one leak and when I pulled the sleeves, the o ring had been scuffed. Several of them I have put new sleeves in though. I have bought four engines for parts this year and when I pulled the sleeves, the crud build up between the o rings was so thick that I can't see how any thing could leak through.
