I have rebuilt a bunch of those little engines. If you shoot me a E-mail I will walk you through it, here, by E-mail, or by phone. Easy job,after you have every thing you need it don,t take long to rebuild them. The longest part of the job is shimming the bearings. The main bearing caps and the rod caps are short and have to be shimmed. You will have to torque them with plastgage and take the caps back off to check several times to make sure your not over the .002 clearance and not under .0015. I have not been able to buy stamped shims so they have to be cut by hand and this takes time

A couple things that you might try before you put new sleeves and pistons in the engine. Run the engine at "HIGH IDLE" or work the tractor at max rpm at low power requirement work for at least 4 hours. See if it still smokes. The service manual says to run a rebuilt engine for 4 hours at "HIGH IDLE" for "run in" or "break in". You mention that the rods and mains are within specs. You might want to set them at or near MINIMUM specs. If the rods and mains are at max. clearance the engine may run quiet but will put a lot of oil in the cylinders, perhaps more than the rings can handle. Did you put any "Teflon" additive in the oil? If so, the additive needs to come out and the oil replaced with "plain" oil until the engine is "run in". You might try 10 or 20 weight oil for the "run in"; non-detergent if you can get it. This is sometimes available at Walmart and at Big Lots or Odd Lots. This may sound really silly, but are you sure that your gas is "clean". A friend of mine put chain saw gas mix in his tractor and caused it to "smoke". I got some contaminated gas that would run the engine in the summer but smoked a little; in the winter the stuff would not run the engine at all. The gas had some "other oil based" liquid or liquids mixed with it. Good luck with your efforts, Gordon
