Hi,
thanks to Phil I found the torque values to redo the head, but I was cheap and tried to reuse the old gasket...it leaked :( Are there any tricks to using an old gasket? Sealers? If a new one is needed, where is the best betto get one from? (I live in New Zealand so have no clues on which of the US mail order firms are trustworthy!!)

Hello, I would try Sandy Lake from the previous post for a new gasket. Head gaskets are not reusable. While your at it, buya new valve cover gasket- spark plugs- wires- etc. Dont skimp on the basics, keep it running a long time

I don't know what's available in Oz for sealers, but I have had good results from K&W Copper Cote.
I use the type with the little "mop" ball attached to the lid. The stuff is really like rubber cement with copper powder suspended in it. Others have suggested heavy grease, aluminum paint and not using any sealer. As far as mail order goes, Sandy Lake Implement is rapidly gaining a great reputation on this site. Head gaskets are not reuseable. They are designed to "crush" to conform to the head and block. Also, using any type of sealer on them is a bad idea. When the engine warms up, the sealer will melt and get into the piston rings causing wear to the rings, pistons, and cylinders. Sandy Lake Implement seems to have a good reputation, so I would consider them. However, I would reccomend a Fel-Pro brand gasket. These are the best gaskets that money can buy. Try an auto parts and supplies store. If they carry Fel-Pro, they can get you one. Hope this helps, Brian.
