After 25 years in the Army, everything on my body hurts and is worn out, so I had a step built to make it easier for me and my wife to get on our 1950 A-C Model B. Maybe some of the rest of you might like to try it.1. Start with a piece of 2"X2"X1/4" piece of angle iron 24" long. 2. Orient the piece of metal so that the vertical surface is against the left final drive and the horizontal points towards the center of the tractor. This orientation is for reference purposes. 3. Measure in 6" from the front end and cut a 90 degree notch out of the top (horizontal) surface. Bend the metal to 90 degrees and reweld the top where the edges of the notch meet. You should then have an "L" shaped piece of metal that forms a step. 4. Weld expanded wire mesh to the top of the 6" section so that your foot will not slip. 5. From the back end of the step on the vertical part that fits against the left final drive, measure in 3/4". Drill a 5/8" hole centered from top to bottom. 6. From the center of the 5/8" hole measure 4 1/4" toward the front of the step and drill a 1/2" hole centered from top to bottom. You may want to check the measurements on the final drive on your tractor. Measure center to center between the front holes where the drawbar mounts on the left final drive. 7. Put a 1/2" bolt through the 1/2" hole with the bolt head toward the inside and two nuts used as jam nuts on the outside. These with fit into the unthreaded hole for the drawbar pin. 8. Place the step in place with the nuts inserted into the hole and bolt up tight with a 5/8" bolt and lockwasher into the threaded hole. 9. Prime and paint to match the tractor either before or after mounting. Mine works great and surely saves these old legs. I am sure that there may be better designs for steps, but this one was easy and the local community college welding shop made it for free.
