Hi, Push the hand clutch forward, this disengages the rear wheels, then step on the foot clutch. While holding the foot clutch forward pull out on the pto engaging rod and shift the transmission into the gear you want to use. Then slowly let out on the foot clutch. The pto should start to work while the tractor stays put. Then pull back on the hand clutch when you want to start moving forward. The WD I had I couldn't shift the transmission with just pushing the hand clutch forward. I had to also step on the foot clutch. Maybe mine wasn't as worn out as some others are. Hope this helps.

You have to use the foot clutch to engage the PTO . You use the hand clutch to stop the tractor or slow it down while the PTO will remain at full speed (540 rpm ) you can change gears with either clutch.

the hand clutch only stops the motion of the tractor. to engage the pto push down the foot clutch and pull the pto knob back then release the foot clutch, pto is now turning. choose a gear and pull the hand cluth and away you go. hope this helps.
