1951 WD with new head and old rings; burns a bit of oil & mild spark plug fouling -- all cylinders equal, no bad ones. Will do the rings next year but in the meantime, what would be a slghtly hotter alternative to Champion J-8-C's ??

Tom,
I've been using Champions in all my old iron, but the last plugs I got were Autolite and I've been pleased with them. Your counterman should be able to recommend a replacement that is one or two heat ranges hotter to help the fouling problem. If he can't do that, it's time to find a new source for your parts!

The AC Delco 45 is the equivialent to the J-8 Champion. The AC plug seems to be a hotter plug than the J-8. Personally, my experience is Champions are a waste of good money, and were a smudge on my reputation. With an oil burner, put in a new thermostat so it gets up to temp and try AC 47's in it. Use AC Delco or Autilite (which is who makes
the OEM plug) Allis # 79001652. If you like changing plugs then Champion is the best choice-
you will get to do it every 2 hours!!!

What do the shop folks at Sandy Lake reccomend for plugs? Like I was saying, through trial and error, the AC Delco 45 plug seemed to last the longest before fouling under light use with Motorcraft A7C being a close second. I haven't tried Autolite plugs yet. Brian
