When air temperature gets cold(below 40)
the carb will ice up at the bottom of the manifold and run really rough. How can I stop
this from happening? Thanks for any reply.

Go to the auto-parts store and buy some metal-foil flex-tube (like is used on your auto air cleaner). Take your air intake tube off your aircleaner (air intake side) ducktape the foil-tube on and run other end across the exhaust manifold, use wire to secure it.
This should warm your intake air enought so it does't ice up.

Worked for me.

Dave,

Our 1941 Farmall M does the same thing. Dad solved the problem
by fastening styrofoam panels (the kind used for house insulation) to the hood and lets them hang down to cover the sides of the engine.
The engine warms up in a few minutes and the icing is not a problem
any more.
