Hi,
I'm putting back together a 1939 Allis WC, which had partially seized. It is all freed up now, and I have the original manual but can't find any info on procedure for re-torquing the head. Any advice most appreciated. Bill

Found the website for torque values.
Link is below.

Bill,
Start in the center and work outward in a spiral pattern. This is a generic procedure that will work on almost any old engine or tractor. Chase the threads in the block for all bolts before starting with the proper tap. Clean the threads of all bolts or studs. Oil the threads of all fasteners before starting. Tighten to one third of final value on the first pass, two thirds on the next pass and full value on the third pass. Run the engine until fully warmed up. allow it to cool down and retorque. After the engine has run for four to five hours, retorque again. You can't go wrong this way. If you find that the torque isn't holding on any of the bolts or studs, I would replace them all and start with new bolts.

Phil, Since we are on this subject, What is the torque for the WC head? I bought a reprint of the WC service manual and have read it from cover to cover twice now and can't find the head torque.

Many thanks Phil, the only thing I am missing now is the actual torque value to use! I haven't found it anywhere yet. Any guesses as to how tight to go? Thanks, Bill

I don't remember the head bolt torque, but I'll look it up and post it here. There is also a website with torque values for most popular tractor makes/models, but I can't find the bookmark. I'll post that too, when/if I find it.
