CA Starter stuck?

Yesterday while brushogging with my CA it stalled. When I tried to restart it, the starter would not do anything as if it was stuck. I was able to put the tractor in 4th gear and rolled it about a foot when I heard something clunk. After that the starter worked fine and started the tractor OK. I'm not sure if something in the PTO bound up or if its in the starter? Any ideas or suggestions to this problem?

My WD was doing this, the ring gear on the flywheel was so badly worn that the gear teeth on the Bendix would ride up over what used to be a ring gear tooth and bind. Replacing the ring gear fixed the problem. Hope you don't have to go this far. Incidentally I replaced the Bendix at the same time as I didn't want the old chewed up Bendix tearing up the new ring gear.

It's called a locked starter. It just happens after time on the older tractors.
The bendix teeth wedges into the teeth of the ring gear. You already figured the way to unlock it. Another way is to losen the starter. If it started happening often you would want to have the starter rebuilt.
