I have recently aquired an old AC Scamper 7hp.i rebuilt the engine and heres where i get dumbfounded. it has a steel cone riding on twin friction cones for a transmission, i need to adjust this somehow as it slips in 1st and 2nd "gear" although the thing has no gears in the usual sense. its about 90% condition hi and rev work fine but i am unable to find any info on the silly thing or a mechanic to work on it!! lol any help would be appreciated thanks, Tom

I remember my father shaking his head when he saw one of those at the dealer. "no way that friction drive will last" If I remember correctly the the friction cones are held against the large steel cone by spring pressure and the lever moves them to vary the speed. If so, and both the driven and driving cones are in decent shape and free of oil you might try increasing the spring pressure. There is a web site for the A-C (Simplicity) tractors. Maybe someone else can give you the link
