How Many Rotations Does It Take to Load Impluse Coupler I Think I Gave it One Tractor Runs Great But Had to Pull to Start it. Will Not Start With Crank and can anyone give me good start Method

I think they only had one full turn when new. I just rebuilt one and was careful when I took it apart and it had only one full turn. I rebuilt one about a year ago and didn't count the turns, ask around and couldn't get an answer, so I first tried one turn and then had to put another 1/2 turn to get it to fire when cranking. The old spring was probably weak. As for pull starting, the weights in the impulse when turning stay out and don't catch on the stop. then at this time the impulse is not in use. I have found that the small end of the weights that catch on the stop wear and don't catch the stop every time. It has to catch, to load the spring, to spin the armature, to create voltage when cranking.

With the hand crank, can you hear the impulse
snap reliably around TDC? If it doesn't, the
impulse pawls might be slipping because they
are worn. If it doesn't seem to snap reliably,
you probably want to try removing the mag and
turning it by hand on the bench, to see what's
going on with the impulse.

We solved that problem with our B by
grinding the ends of the pawls flat, which were
rounded over, and wouldn't hold on the pawl
stop. It starts reliably now.

Before the fix, we would always try to park on
a hill, otherwise it needed a tow. Sometimes
it stalled in a tight spot and it was necessary
to remove the spark plugs, and crank the engine
by hand in gear (human powered tractor) until
it got to a point where it could be towed or
rolled down a hill. It tends to make one annoyed
and tired.
