I know a guy thay works with me that is a farmer. I told him that i found a D17 for sale and he told me that AC's were junk and to stay away from them. Any coments from people that own them. Why should i buy a AC? I have a 401B (50hp) case that i like pretty well, but need more hp and i think the D17 has 68 hp. It has a 6 cyld. The case has a 4 cyld. Any comments from you AC lovers is appreciated. Thanks David

I don't think AC's can be called junk any more than a JD, Ford, Oliver or whatever. Your friend probably had a bad experience at one time or another and is understandibly down on AC's. I think the best evidence of AC quality and dependability is the fact that so many of these 40-55 year old tracters including WD's, WD45's, D-17s, etc are still being used today on small farms.

D17 has 56hp. Not much more than your case. D17 is a good tractor. Many parts available. Series IV has more modern hydraulics with low pressure, high volume. Other models had high pressure, low volume and are not as useful with other hydraulic equipment. Also, many models only had one way hyraulics.

Hi Ron, The serial # is D17 32360D. I believe it is a 1960 model. I believe it has a 6 cyld. I know its a diesel. Missing Grill, needs paint, seat. someone at the location started it for me. It started good to be sitting for awhile. I was told there had been some metal shavings found in the oil.Location Lexington Ky. Price was $3750.I thought It was kind of high, but really liked the way it looked and sounded. There's no for sale sign on it. Just happened to see it behind some buildings off the beltway. Should be able to get a phone # for you if interested. David

That D17 may be 68HP if it has had a D19 engine put in it. If it is diesel it will have a turbo on it (if it's a D19, no turbo if D17). If it's a gas 6 cyclinder then It is mostly likely a D19 gas engine or Combine engine. This will undoubtedly put more stress on the D17 drive train and may not be a good tractor for heavy farm use. I would look for a 170 over a D17 series 4. They actually go for a little less at auctions and I think have a few more pluses than the D17 ser 4.
