Axle leak

Help! I have a leak where the stub axle passes thru from the back of the rear end housing. I have the final drive pulled down and see no cracks. It seems that the oil is going by the stub
which still fits very tight in the hole. Did they use some type of sealer here, or just friction fit? I have thought of coating the stub with stud and bearing mount, or even having it slightly knurled. Ideas? 90 wt clashes with the orange !

What model are you talking about? Are you leaking on the inside or outside of the casting? On the B's through C's and CA's,they have an oil seal on the outside and a press fit cap on the inside.

sorry..... it's a 1941 WC. It was leaking from the back side, right where you see the back of the stub showing in the final drive housing; no leaks on the outer side. Didn't leak alot,but dripped down on the inside of the wheel.

Press fit on the WD with no oil seal, a setscrew holds it from turning or working lose. If you want, you could take the stub shaft out and clean both surfaces free of oil then apply a thin coat of a gasket sealer and reassemble. Loc Tite has a product that would be used in the same maner.

Thanks..... I have it completely out and all over the floor. I shall give your idea a try. We were on the same track, I was just wanting to see if anybody had any other choices! It's a lot of work to go back and re-do !
