Check your choke setting! Some carbs are installed backwards, that is, the butterfly is reversed from normal installation. Try playing with the choke setting . I have a 1948 CA; Could not get it to run when advancing throttle. And, this was a rebuilt carbfrom the parts catalog. Good luck Al

Have you taken the sediment bowl off and checked for restrictions at that point? Have you taken the tank off and checked for large particals that could cover the outlet? Take a gallon can and fix an outlet that can attach with a hose directly to the carburetor and see if it will work. The reason it dies when you open the butterfly is that you change the air fuel mixture by increasing the air and there is a lack of gas.
