D17 rpm governor failed

My AC D17's rpm governor has failed - the engine just revs way high and the steering wheel throttle lever has no effect. All linkage seems o.k. ,and I can manually control rpms by moving the throttle rod that connects to the carb. Anybody out there know about this stuff? Thanks, Steve.

Steve: It sound to me like you have a broken gov. weight. If so, you should not run the engine until fixed. The gov weight have hard metal pieces attached to a soft alloy. If this hard piece gets picked up by a timing gear, Real BAD news. It will bust thing to pieces. Pull your distributor and inspect gov. assembly immediately. Good luck, Bill

My weights broke along with the casting mounts they're hooked to. Cost me $700 to fix it. Had to get all new gov, weights, springs, and timing and crankshaft gears.
