Thermostat housing

I have a pile of parts to complete my WD engine. I am switching to a WD45 head. The thermostat housing seems to only mount to the front hole in the head. What do I do with the back hole? Do I just cover it or will this lead to overheating?

That's right.
I have an older short WC head. The coolant attachment is a tube with two flanges. one flange for each coolant outlet from the head. I have no idea where a thermostat would go. I have a taller WD head. The back coolant outlet is covered with a plate. The front has an expanded area for a thermostat.

If I remember correctly, the 45 head is taller than the "old" heads. It should have suffiecint water fow from the rear of the head to the front of the head internally without the "two hole" T-stat housing. I'm not for sure on this, but I think they still cast and machined the head with both holes in it and just capped the back one with about a 1/4" steel plate. Hope this helps - I'm sure someone out there knows for sure...

I am not shure on a 45 but a d-17 has a cast piece that covers the rear port in the head it's more like a half inch thick. hope this helps
