I just recieved an AC C. I have heard that they can be positive ground. Does any one know if that is right, and if so how do I check if mine is. Also, if it is positive ground can someone please verify to me how the battery hook up is. I want to make sure that I dont mess anything up when I hook up the battery for the first time. Thanks everyone. I know this is a bonehead question, but "Better safe, than sorry".

D,
All C tractors were 6V Positive Ground. If someone has converted it to 12V, it probably has an alternator and is negative ground. As long as the tractor has a generator, it should be positive ground.

thanks Phil! It does have a generator, although I was told it does not work, and has been disconnected. Just to make sure I understand, since it is positive ground, do I hook the positive terminal on the battery to the ground and the negative terminal to the starter?

Thats correct, you hook the positive terminal to ground and the negative terminal to the starter.

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that if it has a magnito it will have a positive ground. Conversly if it has been converted to a distributor it will also have been changed to a negative ground.

Bud:

It make no difference whether it has a magneto or distributor for the polarity of the ground. If it has a generator it should be positive ground and if it has been converted to 12 volt with an alternator then it should be negative ground. I hope that this helps.

Gordon
