Was there any such thing as a six-cylinder gas WD-45? I saw one a few years ago in the Panhandle of Florida, and it sure looked factory-built to me. Someone told me that A-C used a Buda engine in that tractor, but I can't verify that.

I used a picture of it in an article in Toy Tractor Times magazine some years ago, and got some mail telling me I must have been smoking funny cigarettes and so had my camera.

Was there such an animal?????

Stan,

Ditto on JDGnut's post. The WD45 Diesel used the 6BD-230 Buda 6. Allis bought Buda in 1955, so it was a logical choice. Allis also bought Gleaner in 1955 and began using this engine and its gas counterpart, the 6B-230, on the model A (and AII, I believe the C and CII used the 262). Both engines used the same block, making modern day diesel-to-gas conversions a bolt-in affair (for the most part - given that finding a 230 gas or diesel is good condition is darn near impossible). Same goes for the D262 (used in the D17D and D19D) and G262 (used in D19G). I restored a D17 Series III a couple of years ago with a 262 6-cyl gas. Nice tractor. Back to the 230, a guy advertised a 230 gas for sale on the Allis forum a while back. It was off of a Gleaner combine and supposedly in good, running condition.

Regards,
Brian

I am no pro when it comes to the A/C but there were no 6 cylinder gas 45's.. Buda did make a 6 cylinder gas and diesel engine.. (We have 2 45D's.) The 6 cylinder gas engine was used in the Gleaner combines. I have been told that the gas and diesel engines use the same block, crank, rods, but not sure on the pistons. (I dought that they are the same.. ) Install a carb and dist. and you had a heavy duty gas engine.. I don't think it would take much adapt the gas engine to the 45 and it to look stock.. And I have heard of a few Puller doing this, but I haven't see one yet, but I'm sure there are a few out there.. Well this is about all I know.. I hope it this helps.. Later.

JDGnut,

Thanks for the reply. I saw this tractor at a threshing show near Jay, Florida in June 1993. The owner didn't know much about it other than that he had bought it from someone in southern Minnesota.

Thanks again,

Stan
