WD45 electrical system

I recently bought a house that had a WD45 included. After standard fixup (plugs, filters, points, etc.), the tractor runs great, except the battery is not being charged. I discovered that the previous owner did install a 12 volt battery.

If I replace the generator and the voltage regulator with 12 volt devices, are the starter and the ignition coil going to survive? Can I find these two in a 12 volt version somewhere?
