Allis tractors: d-17 and 160

Any info on these 2 models would be greatly appreciated. I especially would like to know if there are any problems that are especially common to either model. The d-17 is gas and the 160 is diesel.

I have a D17 series 4 gas. Never had major engine trouble. Rear main seal leaks slightly and I did convert to 12 volt electrical. Some feel the D-17 models were the bect AC ever made. Your looking at about 55 hp. on a D-17.

Hi Stan, I have a 160 diesel. And I talk to someone (e-mail) with a father with a 160 diesel. Good tractor overall, but the rear main seal on the crank is prone to developing leaks. Mine leaks and so does the other owner's tractor. The only other problem I have experience with is the tie rod ends wearing and failing. Unable to get parts from AGCO (or used). Had to modify to accept ball joint. 160 starts fairly easy in cold weather. Can't help with the D-17. Hope this helps. jag
