I have to replace the bushings/seal in the front support steering arm shaft on my wide front-end C. Has anyone done this before and can give me pointers? I can't seem to get the gear off the one end so I can slide the shaft out. I took the set-bolt out of the gear but it is still stuck on pretty good. Should I heat the gear up to loosen it? I tried a liquid wrench product to no avail. Also, does anyone know where I can get all of the bearings/seals/bushings for the front support? One place I tried did not carry the bottom bearing and seal. And another question - The manual says I should pack both the upper and lower bearings with No2 bearing grease, but when I put 250 gear lubricant in the box won't it fill into the lower bearing? Any help is appreciated.

thanx.

You can get the bearings and seals from your Allis dealer or take the old one to a good automotive parts house and they will cross-reference. Take the shaft diameter along to be certain they get the correct seal ID.

Just finished doing the same on my wide front model C. Once you have the set bolt removed you go to the "heat & beat" technique. Heat the gear, but don't get it too hot(by that I mean not cherry red). Try to heat it uniformaly. Take a brass drift and try to "tap" on opposite sides of the gear. It should come off with a little persuasion.
