Have what I thought was a Model B allis. Have owned it for about five trouble-free years. Anytime I needed parts, went to NAPA or local tractor supplier, and asked for and got parts for Model B. Started restoring and found the serial number to be C57721. Is this a model B or a Model C ????? Any replies appreciated.

Ok guys, found the engine serial #CE84744 G on the engine. Have a few more questions. 1. Since we have determined that this is a model "C" not a "B", how do we explain that the decals,
{markings} say "B"???
2. There are two cylinders on the rear end of this thing that appear to move a bar with four arms up and down. What exactly do they do? I've only used the PTO and the tool bar for a "rotary mower", a ground driven rake, and a "string tie baler". When I bought the tractor, I got a single bottom plow with a colter, a rotary mower, and a 10' disc. Where do I find a rebuild kit for the cylinders?????

Jack, the serial number you have givin states that it is a 1948 C. Another difference between the B and the C is in the steering arms from the steering box to the front end. The arms on the C will both point up, and the arms on the B will point down. The arm going to the front end on the C goes to the front pedestal, the one on the B will go directly to the left front spindle. hope this helps you out even more. I've seen B arched front axle on C's, or C axle housings on a B, so it's not that unusual to see this.

The transmission started out on a C. There is no difference inthe transmissions other than the serial numbers. The B rear cast hubs were splined an held on with a nut an washer, The C cast hub was bolted to a flang on the axle. From the breaks out the C is wider than the B. The B had the cast wishbone front axle. The C had a narrow front or wide adjustable front. The B was for a one row cultivator and the C was for a two row cultivator. I Hope this helps if not just ask more questions. Come back and tell us what you have.
