Allis B I ?

a friend of mine has an allis-chalmers he calls a B I it is low down and has a sickle mower on it and a wide front he says it was an old hiway dept. mower and it runs and looks great. what is it worth ? I have a couple of allis but know nothing about the B I It seems to be about half the size of my 45 D .

Bud,
Sounds like an IB. For what its worth, there were only 2850 IB's built in the 20 years of production from 1939 through 1958. Check the serial number stamped on top of the transmission by the shifter. All but the first 60 IB's built have the IB prefix in the serial number. The tractors with the IB in the serial number started at IB1001 in 1946.

The B I is more commonly referred to as an IB which was an industrial version of the B used in agriculture. Many highway departments used them for mowing ditches, etc. Yellow was a common fleet color for them. Like the B, they had about "20 something" horsepower and were (and still are in many cases) very good little tractors... just like your 45 d or a WD 45.
