can anyone tell me the differences between the 226 gas engines in these tractors other than the rated speed and compression ratios. I have a 226 that i am trying to identify, it has a full flo oil filter. also what were the s/n of the 17 motors i know the wd motor s/n started with a w my motor is stamped 17-82876-v thanks.

Sounds like what you have is an engine out of a D-17 Series IV. The full flow filter and the post 75,000 serial number are the keys. The block is a totally different casting due to the lubrication system, I'm not really sure which of the internals were changed, or how.

Lee, one differnce and the only one I know of is in the 17 motor the crackshaft and rod jounals are larger than in the 45 motor, hope this helps, Paul Anderson, Shelby, Ohio

Thank you very mutch karl and paul for the info. a friend gave it to me to replace the engine in my wd and it did not look the same. it sounds like a lucky find. again thanks. Lee
