Next weekend, I'm going to buy a 60 All Crop combine pull type and PTO drive. I already asked information about his in the implement catagory, but was wondering if I could get more in the Allis Chalmers catagory. I would just like to know more about operating this combine. I already realize that getting parts and getting a manual for it is close to impossible. Is there anything I have to watch out for when buying and operating this machine? I just need some general advice and comments about this machine. Of all the things, i plane to do custom harvesting with this. Thanks.

these are good combines and work well, but, you are buying a 50 year old machine, like a 50 year old car it will need attention if you plan to use it every day. (1)what shape are the drapers in, if thay are shot the machine is worthless and very spendy to replace. (2)cylinder bars, how mutch rubber is left on them, are thay bent? (from running rocks through them). are the belts good?. was the unit shedded? are the cleanout doors rusted out.(grain elevator). I also believe there are aboute 80 grease zerks on these machines I would bring a grease gun along and hit as many as you can find and see if thay take grease, you may find many potential problems this way. also I dont think you will have any trouble finding a manual i see them at tractor shows regularly, i paid 35.00 for a 66,72 and a 72 parts book last summer. MY 2 cents. good luck. LEE

The combine you are looking at is one of the best combines ever built. Manuals and parts are out there. Read the manual BEFORE you use the combine as so to lubricate it properly. If I remember correctly, there are about 100 grease fittings on the machine, some of which are a little hard to find the first time around. I know because I missed one and found out where it was when the bushing failed! The only fitting that you don't want to grease is the fitting that greases the face of the main slip clutch. It will just make the clutch slip to easily and you will have to wash it out or over tighten the clutch. Nobody I know greased that one. Make sure that the bottom of the combine has no rusted out holes. One other thing ,make sure that the cylinder bars have a good coating of rubber on them so you will not crack the grain. Get a good hand held tachometer and follow the settings in the manual and it will do a beautiful job of thrashing grain. When you get it in the field on a cloudy day you will hear why they were called the Sunshine Combine as when the sun goes behind a cloud in the afternoon, she will growl at you! This has brought back a lot of happy memories. Good luck and let us know how you like it. Bill in Mich

Getting parts and manuals are not next to impossible. I have purchased many new parts, you can still get them from agco if you are willing to pay the price. I have come across many manuals, there is one for sale on EBay right now.
