What holds the snap-coupler closed. I just bought this tractor and the snap was wired closed.
Also, what would a '45 wide front w/power steering, rear blade, 2btm plow, and loader be worth? Just wanting to see if I got a good deal.
I gave $1500.

The hook is held shut with a big spring. When you remove the hook you have to put a wooden dowel through the hole for the pin or the spring detaches from the hook. It's been a while since I had mine apart so I don't remember exactly how it hooks up. You may still have the spring in there but it's unhooked.

If the tractor is in decent mechanical shape that seems to be a very good price.

I took mine apart today and there is no spring in there. Where do you think I could get a spring? I also just bought a WD with wide front end with the engine stuck for parts, but when I got it home, the metal is so good, I'm going to rebuild it to sell. What would be a good price for it? To sell, that is.

price it based on the local market that you can test in the Thrifty Nickle. (see www.thriftynickle.com) I don't own it, but read it a lot for their ag marketplace. Its got nationwide coveage, and its current. Usually quite a few tractors advertised each week. With a new overhall, and a bit of fresh paint, $4,500 would not be too much. Here in central Illinois, they are often considered to be tractor mowers for your yard. Considering the price of a new JD yard tractor, a full size D-17 is a good value.
