Do all d-17s have a high/low range transmission?

The only exception would be the industrial model. Otherwise all D17's had the high-low power director hand clutch.

It's a hydraulicly driven secondary clutch. One half goes straight through, while the other goes through a planitary style drive to either increase or reduce the speed of the output shaft to the rear end. (I think, not completly sure) If this is not right, i'm sure someone will correct it.

Darrell: The power director clutch is a wet clutch in the D17 but it is mechanically engaged, not hydraulically engaged. Also the low range is driven from a gear on the main clutch shaft that drives a countershaft that drives a hollow clutch shaft that is splined into the low range clutch plates and is not a planetary reduction as you stated. I'm not trying to criticize, just trying to save some confusion and misconceptions. Have a good day.

Gordon,a great description. To add to the question about the [handclutch], it has a neutral possision inbetween hi and low giveing the D-line live power on the PTO. the whole clutch pack is so close on tolorance you can shift on the move like a TA or MULTI-POWER.
