Hello All,

I am looking for a tractor to help clear some land of Alder stumps (6" and smaller),to clear brush, and to use in maintaining a long gravel driveway that I will be laying. I found a 1954 wd45 with a front loader and a rear mounted "drag box"(owners term for a square drag blade) The engine starts easily, and sounds good. All hydraulics work well, and no leaks were visible. It is unrestored but I would say in good shape for its age. (minor sheet metal bends and dings.)Rear tires are good, fronts not so good.
His asking price is $4000 OBO which sounds quite high to me. Do you think this type of tractor will do the job for me? What is the actual value of something like this? Any other recomends?

Thanks in advance, DaveM

That may be just a tad high, however the front end loader sells for 1500 to 1800 used around here alone.

Remember. even if $4000 is just a little high, what else do you expect to find in that price range that will do the job? If the market is there then see what else shows up, if its not, you may not want to take the chance. Here in Texas, Tractor prices have sky rocketed! Any 40 to 60 HP tractor is going for 6,000 to 12,000 USED!!

Dave,
That sounds a little high to me. Especially if the loader is a trip bucket type, not all hydraulic. A box blade is nice, but they are less than $400 new so it really doesen't add that much. New front tires/tubes will probably set you back $100 so I would offer about $2800-$3200 and see if that is acceptable. If the loader is all hydraulic I would go up to $3500.

My two cents,
Phil

Phil,

Thanks for the come back. The loader is all hydraulic, and looks very heavy duty. the tractor has been converted to 12v. and has a new water pump, and battery. The owner told me that it has 40 HP. Does this sound right to you?

Thanx again, DaveM
