Depends what you want. The 45 is a great tractor for a collector or some light work around the home 20. It is easy to work on and parts are readily available. The 17 on the other hand is a real tractor that you can use to do a significant amount of farm type work. It has a good horsepower range and handles well. 45's in this area will run from $1000 for a fair one to $3000 for a very good one. The 17's will run from about $2000 for a pretty poor one to $3500 for a pretty good one. Series 4 tractor's are worth $500 to $1000 more. Me? I grew up on 45,s and would love to have one. I now have a D-17 IV that is very handy and intend to restore. John
