I have a 53 WD45 that only fouls one plug nearest the driver. The other plugs are black & but it only fouls the one plug. I have rebuilt the carb. I completely tuned it up-replacing all igniton components. The tractor runs great for an hour or so then fouls the one plug & is wet with fuel--compression checks ok on all cylinders. It sure has me stumped!Should I try a hotter plug?I am using AC plugs. Champion last about a minute!Thank you for your time.

IF U CHECKED ALL THE CYLINDERS,& THEY CHECKED RELITIVELY THE SAME THEN THE PROBLEM IS NOT INSIDE THE ENGINE.Something simple im sure.First inexpensive thing i would do is change the wires.I have leared that NAPA offers a great agricultural type wire set.GOOD LUCK MAN

Phil and Aaron hit on some good points. I had a Farmall M that ran like a top after a valve job. Same problem, 1 cyl. fouling after about .5 hr to and hour. I run copper wire to my plugs but seem to have one of them short out once in while on my D17. I get the wire kits from Central Tractor and the boots and plug covers are pretty cheap. The rain and snow gets in around the plugs sometimes.

Keith,
When you replaced "all ignition components" did you replace the plug wires? If you did, did you use automotive resistor wires or copper core wires? The copper core wires are the correct type, the resistor wires can cause the problem you're experiencing.

You could pull the head and check the valves. There may be a problem with one in that hole. A valve kit is only around $80 and I had my WC head done for $175 plus the cost of the kit.

If the plug wires are all new and made of copper then is very well can be the valve seal on the intake valve. If the tractor smokes bad it may be a broken oil control ring on that cylinder.
