Wd45 shifter replacement

From what you have described it sounds like you removed the entire shifter top from the transmission. If this is what you have done, then you have either put the top back on with one of the shifter forks not in neutral and the shifter shaft not in that lug or when you installed the top you didn't get one of the forks back into the shifting collar. What you will need to do is remove the top again and make sure that the front shifting collar is in the center or neutral position of it travel. Then shift the rear shifting collar with the gear teeth on it ahead as far as it will go. This will be in second gear. Then make sure that the reverse idler gear is shifted all of the way back against the large rear 1st gear. It is easier to slide the reverse shifter fork down into the transmission when the collars are set in this position when you try to install the top. Next you will need to make sure that all of the shifting lugs are lined up in the neutral position. Next put the 1st and 2nd shifter fork in the forward or second gear position and make sure that the end of the shifter shaft is positioned in that lug. Then carefully install the top while making sure that the forks slide into their collars as you lower the top onto the transmission. If the shifter shaft stayed in the 1st and 2nd lug then you should be able to shift the transmission in all of the gears. If it didn't stay in the lug, then you can remove the snap ring that holds the shifter shaft into the top and lift the shaft out of the top. Then using a flashlight and a long screwdriver or pry bar look down at the shifting lugs and using the screwdriver shift the 1st and 2nd shifting lug back into neutral so that all of the lugs are lined up. Then you carefully install the shifter shaft into the top making sure that the shaft goes into the lugs and you don't lose the locating pin that slides into the slot on the shaft. Use this procedure if the transmission locks in a gear again instead of removing the entire top. I hope that this helps.
