D17 spewing steering fluid out the filler cap.

Keep filling it up, keeps spewing it out when the motor is running.

Power steering only works well at high RPM's as well, but I think that's just a loose belt I need to tighten as soon as it gets a little warmer.

Anyone have experience with this type of leakage?

Had this problem when i restored a d-17d. The power steering pump seals where changed at this time. however the replacement seal supplied by agco was incorrect and allowed air in the system but did not leak oil. Air in the system caused the oil to foam and spew out the breather. I then replaced the shaft seal with the correct one and fixed the problem.

Fargo: David has given you some good advice but there is one other thing to consider. Since there is no dipstick on the filler plug, a lot of people fill the power steering compartment all of the way or almost all of the way up when you should only put oil in until you can stick your finger in the hole and touch the oil. If you put in too much oil it can be pushed out of the breather. If you have been putting in too much oil then that may be part or all of your problem. Let us know what you find out.

Which 17 do you have. Series 1 2 3 4 or year&gas or deisel. Most 17 steering pumps have the presher releif valve built in pump. Also a seperate bypass line back to reservoir.check for air leaks around SUCSION&BYPASS lines.

Doesn't change advice, but diferent series have diff. pumps. For instance my S-1 has pump mounted on generator piggyback. If you keep spewing oil out the overflow vent it must be getting air in from somwhere.Or a tremendous amount of heat buildup one,which I dout. I don't have any trouble filling mine full &it dos'nt overflow.So I still think air is getting in from somewhere.Don't think it would come from pressure line or it would leak oil out.LIke to know what you find, call me,love to talk D-17 3369983563.

Thanks alot. It still runs fine so I put it in the Barn and will fix it when it gets warm.
