Neighbor just bought an Allis. They're not sure if it's a C or B. Wants to pull a two bottom plow (I'm not sure what size). What is the B/C rated for??, Thanks...Hope ya all had a good X-mas.

Down here in this north Ga. red clay we used a Athens two disk semi-mounted turning plow with our "C". I have now a two disk mounted plow I use with my "CA". Bottom plows did not get popular in this area until the early 60's.

The B and C were both rated as a one plow tractor however in very good, loose soil, conditions could pull 2 14's if you could get traction. Allis built a one bottom pickup plow for the B/C tractors. I just got one of the B/C plows and am getting it ready to try in the spring.

T-Tim,
Have your neighbor look just in front of the shift lever. There will be a cast in "TRACTOR NO" with a flat spot next to it. The S/N will be stamped on the flat spot and will begin with the model letter as in Bnnnnn or Cnnnnn. The nnnnn's represent the serial number. Might have to scrape paint to read it.
I seem to remember that the B was a one plow tractor and the C a two plow tractor. Since they have the same engine, there must be a difference in the gearing.
Phil

Phil, one small correction, both the B and C were one bottom plow tractors, they have the same engine and transmission, but the difference is a B is a 1 row tractor, and a C is a 2 row tractor, when it comes to row croping.
