WD Firing Order Cylinder #'s

According to the Tune-Up Specifications page on this website, the firing order for a WD is 1-2-4-3. Are the cylinders numbered 1-2-3-4 from front to rear, or are they numbered differently? Also, my WD was converted to a distributor. The Delco-Remy distributor cap has the number "1" between 2 of the posts on the cap. Can anyone tell me which post on the cap is considered #1. I'm kind of up a creek. I ran out of gas in the pasture. By the time I got back to the tractor with some gas, my cattle had chewed and pulled all the spark plug wires off of the tractor (I wonder if they have been watching the neighbor's goats). Anyway, now I have no reference point to compare to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I need to know the firing order for my distributor cap on a 93 ford ranger with a 3.0L v6 and the order of the cylinders. looking from the front of the vehicle

The cylinder in front is #1 followed by #2 and so on. I think the distributor turns clockwise, so the 1 on the cap I think should be between the 1and 4 posts on the cap. If it won't run, just move them all in succesion around the cap untill it does. It may backfire loudly, but it won't hurt anything. Hope this helps, Brian.

depending on the engine the order may be 1 3 4 2.
