Sleeping Beauty becomes Princess

I had an exciting day yesterday. My co-workers are not as appreciative so I am feeling the need to tell you "guys". "Sleeping Beauty" (a 1952 Allis-Chalmers CA tractor) took her first breathes last night after peacefully resting for twenty years. From now on, she will be refereed to as "Princess". We worked all afternoon Sunday preparing her for the big moment. At around 8:00 PM I added gas and set the choke. We held our breath while I pulled the starter rod. She quickly roared to life as if to be letting out a big yawn! This was a beautiful sound after working so hard on her for three years. After some minor adjustments to the throttle linkage, I climbed aboard for her maiden voyage down the stone lane. It would have been appropriate to break a bottle of bubbly across her bow at this point. Princess hummed gracefully (as graceful as a straight piped, 48 year old tractor can be) as we glided through the moonlit night. It will be a long, long time before this beauty is ready for "tractor heaven"!

My dad had a D-15 he got new in 1962 and a model C. The D-15 was big Al and the C was the bug tractor(look at one from the front and use a little imagination) Our barn burned down in 1972 and dad got the D-15 out. The C didnt make it, dad cried over the loss of the C. He purchased another C a few years later, but it was never the same. I guess we do get attached.

Way to go! That must have been quite a rush... especially after several years of working on it. You're right, most people won't care, but WE do! Congrats on the "princess." My old WC is the "ol' woman." Isn't sick how we personify these things?!? Oh well, if we don't care for them, who will?
