Does anybody know if AC really put a 301 cubic inch 6 cylinder turbo diesel engine in some of the cotton pickers from the South? Is this a reality or a myth? Thanks!

They did use the 301 in some self propelled cotton pickers. I don't have my book to give you the models.

Was that a 301 turbo diesel? Also...are those engines impossible to find?

Thanks for the info!!

I think the turbo version was available. Same engine as in combines. A differant version in tractors.

It could have been the Buda 262 turbocharged engine built from 1961 through 1963 in the D-19 tractor.

The one that I saw said it was a 301 cubic inch turbocharged diesel. Could that have been the 262 bored to the 301? Thanks for the reply!!

I don't know about that but there certainly was a 301 turbocharged diesel from the XT190 through the 8010 tractor including some combines. If it's the 301 that was probably one of the most versatile diesel engines AC ever built parts for it should be readily available turbo charged it could be anywhere from 90 to 120+ hp intercooled in the 120 and up pretty sweet engine. The engine was built in the Harvey Ill. engine plant I'm not sure if it was derived from any of the Buda engines.

Any idea how hard an engine like that would be to put in a WD45 or a D17? Or would it be possible at all?
